We are looking for an ambitious reporter to join the BuzzFeed News San Francisco bureau to cover the leaders of the technology industry: The moguls, dealmakers and inventors that are now driving the American economy. While the products and services these people build are subject to intense scrutiny, less closely watched is the way they do business, wield their considerable influence, and interact with other power centers of the economy and society.
The ideal candidate will be fearless, with a proven ability to overcome the layers of PR and influence that reduce so much technology reporting to carefully-managed product marketing.
Responsibilities:
- Identify the most important figures in Silicon Valley, going beyond high-profile CEOs to find the people making things happen
- Produce deeply reported exclusives on these people and their work
- Report on the bigger picture of their power and influence, including their interactions with politics, finance and the corporate world
- Collaborate with our technology and investigative teams on story opportunities
Requirements:
- Experience covering the technology industry
- Experience in financial journalism a plus, including analyzing financial statements and other corporate filings
- A passion for the beat is a must: this is a job that will be largely defined by the candidate, and needs someone who brings big ideas and a hunger to break stories.
