Bloomberg First Word seeks Treasury market reporter

April 23, 2016

Posted by Chris Roush

First Word was built on the idea of news for a market, as opposed to news about a market. Our stories are condensed into bullet points for quick reading and include analysis of key news developments, company announcements, important media reports, analyst ratings and updates on the markets, so our customers can stay on top of the news of the moment.

You’re able to provide perspective on “what is happening” and “what it means.” You enjoy generating and shaping concise, on-the-spot stories on key developments in the US Treasury Market. You’re the perfect person to join our US First Word Rates service.

How we give back:

We want to be first on every story, but that doesn’t mean we expect you to get there all on your own. We’re happy to share information, ideas, and contacts across our news teams and platforms whenever we can. To succeed in our business, it helps to have a lot of friends.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Generate and shape concise, on-the-spot stories on developments in the U.S Treasury market
  • Capture the elements of both “what’s happening” and “what it means,” particularly in the context of macroeconomic monetary and fiscal policy

You’ll need to have:

  • Knowledge of Bloomberg’s rates functions and understanding of the futures and derivatives markets beyond the cash market (a plus!)
  • The ability and market-specific knowledge to immediately discern actionable information from breaking news and have strong writing skills and proven ability to make new contacts and develop sources
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience in reporting on the bond markets and writing and/or in a comparable industry role (strategist/analyst/trader)
  • Deep and broad contacts among the rates trader and investor community
  • The ability to be a strong team player
