May 18, 2016

Posted by Chris Roush

It’s a big deal. First Word was built on the idea of news for a market, as opposed to news about a market. Our stories are condensed into bullet points for quick reading and include updates on the market, key news developments, information on energy infrastructure, company announcements, important media reports and analyst ratings so our customers can stay on top of the news of the moment. We’re looking for a reporter to join our First Word Oil Service to cover Washington, including energy policy, regulation and legislation.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Cover Washington, including energy policy, regulation and legislation
  • Develop deep and broad contacts at the Energy and Interior departments and agencies like FERC, EPA and PHMSA as well as with Congressional committees and lawmakers involved in crafting energy policy
  • Provide fast and concise breaking news relevant to energy markets and companies
  • Write quickly and concisely under tight deadline pressure
  • Be a self-starter who can perform to the highest standards without close supervision

You’ll need to have:

  • Strong writing skills
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of three years covering Congress or federal agencies with some experience of energy issues
  • Strong work ethic, be a team player, and the ability to work calmly in high-pressure environment
  • An understanding of U.S. oil and refined product markets
