Barrons.com, the website of the nation’s premier financial magazine, is seeking a financial writer to blog about income investments and write a weekly bond column for Barron’s print edition.

In a world of exceptionally low interest rates, investors are increasingly searching for income, and the successful candidate will help them find it. The job involves both covering the news and offering advice. When the Federal Reserve announces employment numbers each month, the income investing blogger will be quick to report the news and the market’s reaction; then he or she will also step back and tell readers how to invest in anticipation of next month’s – or next year’s – report.

The blogger will closely monitor daily trading activity, aggressively reporting on and analyzing news related to income generation. This is a broad beat, spanning all securities that offer yields, from dividend-paying stocks and preferred shares to municipal bonds to REITs, Master Limited Partnerships and closed-end funds. The successful candidate will tell readers which asset classes offer opportunity and which are overvalued. Between 5 and 7 blog posts per day are expected, with many consisting of actionable investing ideas. The weekly column in the magazine helps readers understand the news, what it means to their portfolios, and offers advice on how to position their portfolios to profit. The writer would also have the opportunity to write features for the magazine.

The blogger will draw on a network of primary sources, including company executives, stock analysts, and portfolio managers, and maintain knowledge of relevant secondary sources (mainstream media and other financial blogs). While focusing on the U.S., the blogger would write about international securities as needed.

Experience covering the bond market is preferred. Knowledge of WordPress or a similar program is desirable. The position is based in mid-town Manhattan.
