American Inno seeks journalists to expand into 10 new markets

April 30, 2018

American InnoAmerican Inno is a digital media and events company covering and connecting local startups, technology and innovation. We are in Boston, Chicago, DC, Austin, Minneapolis, Rhode Island, Cincinnati, Atlanta and Wisconsin, with plans to expand to a dozen more cities over the next year.

In every market we’re in, Inno profiles the entrepreneurs, executives, startups, businesses and trends that are driving and shaping the city’s ecosystem. We are the source for local innovation.

To expand, we’re looking for a Digital Producer/Editor who will be responsible for launching, editing, and growing new Innos, while also overseeing/editing an existing Inno in DC. The Producer will manage a roster of freelancers and contractors, write original content, handle social distribution and scale the company’s authority and audience in its markets.

Though every Inno is a little different, each property will consist of a newsletter (daily, twice-a-week or weekly), several pieces of editorial a week, and a monthly or quarterly event. The New Market Producer will anchor the properties they’re responsible for, taking ownership over their day-to-day and growth.

We’re looking for a hungry, passionate, talented manager/writer/editor/audience generator that’s excited by the opportunity to run and grow new media properties. The role can sit in one of several markets they may be overseeing – Denver, DC, Richmond, Charlotte, Indianapolis, Detroit, Nashville, Tampa, Houston and Pittsburgh. (There’s potential to be in an existing Inno office, too – Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis, Cincy, Madison/Milwaukee, Austin.

A New Market editor will…

  • Work hard and fast while also understanding that we’re in the business of adding value through original, thoughtful, engaging content regardless of platform.
  • Identify and manage a roster of contractors that will add value to our audience.
  • Cultivate a local voice. (This requires flexibility, hustle, and the ability to identify an important story without sometimes being in market).
  • Establish a level of authority in every market you cover.
  • Ensure that an Inno is always the place to get everything you need to know about local tech and startups.
  • Tell original stories about the space, while also being able to curate relevant stories from throughout the community (essential for a New Market editor).
  • Teach and inform the readers every day.
  • Be invested in growth, from site performance to event attendees to newsletter subscribers. You own these Innos – take pride and responsibility for their success.
  • Be self-motivated. There’s not a ton of hand-holding in this role. We’re looking for someone that recognizes the opportunity – the ability to build new media properties and help Inno expand – and runs with it.
  • Be a good ‘team’ player. Though you’ll be the sole writer of these Innos, you’ll work closely with the entire Inno team to grow the brand.

American Inno is a digital media and events company covering, strengthening, and supporting local innovation. In every market, we publish a daily/weekly newsletter, tell a handful of authoritative, engaging stories a week, and host several big events throughout the year, as well as a monthly meetup. American Inno is backed by the prestigious American City Business Journals, which owns a network of 40+ business papers throughout the US. ACBJ reaches and connects the business leaders of today. Inno is focused on the business leaders of tomorrow.

Please send a paragraph or two to Will Flanagan (wflanagan@americaninno.com), head of product and editorial for American Inno, about why you think you’re the right fit for the position. We’re looking to fill this position asap.
