Blaise Zerega has resigned as editor in chief of tech news site VentureBeat.

Here is his message to the staff:

Folks,

I resigned from VentureBeat on Friday; my last day will be 28 July. I will work closely with Jason and Emil to delegate my duties as Matt seeks a replacement editor in chief.

We have much to be proud of: Smart and independent daily reporting on transformative technologies. The launch of channels like Bots, AI, PC Gaming, and most recently, Heartland Tech. The fantastic growth of GamesBeat Decides. New and reinvigorated newsletters. And so much more. I’m confident there will be even greater achievements in the future.

Underpinning all of this has been true camaraderie. Time and again we’ve gone above and beyond to assist one another, sometimes working until dawn, often sacrificing our weekends. Feelings of affection, respect, and support are what I shall remember most. For the news cycle moves on and so do our lives. Paul got married (lucky man!), Jeff welcomed a baby daughter (also lucky!), and some of us lost loved ones. We’ve celebrated and mourned, together, as friends.

I am grateful to have worked with each of you. My farewell wishes: Ignore the everyday; summon your creativity and intelligence always; pursue scoops and scoops of perception with great zeal; serve the reader.

I became a journalist because I love stories. If stories are how we make sense of all that is wonderful, mad, sad and full-goose gonzo about our lives, then my time at VentureBeat has been one heck of a tale. It’s time now for me to go write my next adventure — I’ll be able to share more on that in the weeks ahead.

I look forward to staying in touch and remain ready to help in anyway possible.

Thank you all for everything. Outstanding.
