TALKING BIZ NEWS EXCLUSIVE

Michael Casey, The Wall Street Journal‘s Argentina bureau chief, will return to the New York offices as Money Talks columnist, according to an internal announcement Monday.

The announcement stated, “After a six-year stint as Argentina bureau chief, Michael joins the global team that weighs in on major issues in fixed income markets and the world’s economy. Michael’s no stranger to the U.S. economic story; he was assistant managing editor for money at Newswires for two years before moving to Buenos Aires. During his time in Argentina, Michael also wrote a book on the imagery of Che Guevara.”

He is being replaced by Matthew Cowley.

Charles Roth, AME for Latin America, stated in an announcement: “He previously worked as a special writer in New York, producing the Money Talks column, and before that, reported in the Emerging Markets group. Matt’s no stranger to South America, having joined Dow Jones in Brazil. He also lived in Chile and Uruguay, and was born in Venezuela. Matt holds a bachelor’s degree from Liverpool University in economics and Latin American studies.”

Roth also made the following announcement Monday: “Dan Molinski has taken over the energy beat in Venezuela, a top oil exporter to the U.S. that happens to be run by fiery anti-U.S. leader Hugo Chavez. Dan brings plenty of experience to his new job. For the last three years, he’s worked on our New York foreign exchange desk, and over the last eight months also doubled as a member of the hedge fund group. Before that, Dan spent nearly six years in Colombia, working the first four of them with Dow Jones and the balance for the Associated Press. He also reported in Mexico back in the 1990s for The News, that country’s largest English-language daily. Dan has a Bachelors degree from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, in International Relations. Dan replaces Raul Gallegos, who is going to Columbia University on a Knight-Bagehot fellowship.”
