WSJ wins softball championship for second consecutive year
The Wall Street Journal won the New York Media Softball League championship this past weekend, defeating Chartbeat by an 8-7 score in the championship game.
It’s the Journal’s second consecutive championship and sixth overall. The newspaper also won from 2009 to 2012.
In the semifinals, The Journal defeated New York Public Radio, 5-4, with a walk-off hit on the ninth inning. In the other semifinal, Chartbeat handled Forbes by an 8-2 score.
While the Journal has appeared in eight final games, it was Chartbeat’s first. Chartbeat took a 7-2 lead into the sixth inning, but the Journal scored two in the sixth and four more in the bottom of the seventh to notch its sixth NYMSL title.
The Journal also came from behind to defeat New York Public Radio in last year’s title match.
Forbes won the third-place game. During the regular season, Forbes finished 6-4, while the Journal finished 10-0.
