Wall Street Journal technology editor Jonathan Krim sent out the following staff announcement on Thursday:

We’re excited to announce a number of appointments as we continue our global expansion of technology coverage:

  • Amir Mizroch will shortly take on the role of tech editor for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, spearheading tech coverage for all platforms during European hours and working closely with our London-based reporters, regional bureau chiefs, tech-minded reporters across EMEA and our global tech staff. Amir, who will be based in London, started his journalistic career in television in South Africa. He spent eight years at the Jerusalem Post, managing the online newsroom, then heading up the paper’s news division before being appointed executive editor. Most recently, he started up the English online edition of Israel Hayom, the country’s biggest circulation paper, while hosting a daily news talk show in Tel Aviv. Amir was born just outside of Tel Aviv and raised in South Africa, graduating from Rhodes University in Grahamstown.  Follow him @Amirmizroch
  • Lisa Fleisher will soon arrive as our London-based tech reporter, working closely with Amir and the rest of our global tech team. Lisa had been covering education at the Journal’s Greater New York section, where she broke news on test scores and has written extensively about teacher evaluations, a pumpkin spice-latte shortage and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. She also was a key member of the Journal’s reporting team during the Boston marathon bombing, the Newtown shooting and Superstorm Sandy. Lisa hails from Tenafly, New Jersey, and graduated from New York University. Follow her @lisafleisher
  • Our own Sam Schechner is named senior tech reporter for EMEA. Based in Paris, Sam has already done a terrific job of writing about tech, telecoms and other mainstays of the French corporate world. In his new role, Sam has a mandate to write broadly about tech issues across the region. Sam joined the Journal as an entertainment columnist for Personal Journal and then covered the business of television for the paper’s media and marketing bureau in New York. He broke news of both Amazon’s and Intel’s forays into the online-video world, while writing about Comcast’s acquisition of NBC Universal and Oprah’s new cable network, as well as the seamy world of arm wrestling. He hails from New York City and graduated from Brown University. Follow him @samschech
  • In Asia, Newley Purnell will be joining us as a tech reporter for southeast Asia, covering startups, trends and the battle for digital reach and supremacy in countries with some of the world’s largest populations. Currently a freelancer based in Bangkok, Newley’s work has appeared in the Journal, Quartz, the New York Times and other publications. He has also covered the region for ABC Radio, and following him @Newley has been a great way to keep abreast of the unrest in Thailand.  A graduate of Emory University and the Columbia University graduate journalism program, Newley speaks Spanish and Thai. He will be based in Singapore.

Please join us in congratulating  Amir, Lisa, Sam and Newley. More to come.
