Wall Street Journal deputy managing editor Matt Murray sent out the following staff announcement on Monday afternoon:

We’re pleased to announce that Mary Lane has  joined the Journal’s Germany bureau. Mary will cover politics and economics from Berlin, with a particular focus on the unfolding euro crisis. She will work closely with Marcus Walker, our chief European economics correspondent and deputy bureau chief.

A native Virginian, Mary has spent the past few years in Germany. As a Fulbright fellow, she interned with the AP and the Journal in Berlin. She has also worked for DJN and as a stringer for the Journal, covering everything from Angela Merkel to supermodel Lara Stone.

In her new role, Mary will continue to  apply her writing talents to areas outside the realms of politics and economics, including culture, music and fashion.

A graduate of Middlebury, Mary holds degrees in German and Sinology. In addition to fluent German, she speaks Chinese, which she learned while attending high school in Beijing.

Please join us in welcoming Mary to the Germany bureau and the Journal.
