WSJ digital subs up 25 percent for the year

Redesigned WSJThe Wall Street Journal digital subscribers totaled 948,000 at the end of the 2016 fiscal year, according to a company news release on Monday.

That’s compared to 753,000 in the prior year, or up 25.9 percent.

In the News Corp. fourth-quarter news and information division, which includes the Journal, Barron’s and MarketWatch.com, revenue totaled $1.4 billion, up $13 million, or 1 percent.

Digital revenues represented 23 percent of of the division’s revenues in the quarter, compared to 19 percent in the prior year. At Dow Jones, digital revenues represented 53 percent of total revenues in the quarter.

Earnings in that division fell 5 percent to $160 million for the quarter.
