Rick Stouffer of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review writes about the decision by the competitor, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, to cut its stock listings and Monday business section and interviewed executive editor David Shribman about the moves.
Stouffer writes, “The Post-Gazette’s Monday business pages were cut because, Shribman said, because ‘no real business news happens on Sundays.’
“‘Dropping Monday business pages is more of the same as dropping stock tables,’ Morton said. ‘It’s probably more damaging though, because it could reduce their standing in the market. They’re undermining their position in the market while trying to save money.’
“Shribman said other pages throughout the Post-Gazette will be trimmed, depending on the week and the fact that the paper’s sections must match in terms of pages due to its printing press alignment.”
