Why a biz journal is offering more subscriber-only content

Rebecca Troyer, the editor of the Triad Business Journal in Greensboro, writes about why the business newspaper is offering more subscriber-only content on its website.

Troyer writes, “For years, the only stories that landed behind the so-called paywall were those that appeared in our Friday print edition. In the past, those stories were usually more deeply reported and provided more analysis and context than the stories that appeared in digital form only.

“Those days are gone. Today, our stories are platform-agnostic. Our goal is to ensure with every story that we’re delivering not just the top-line news, but also explaining what the news means for you and your business.

“Stories that require multiple sources, deep reporting, research, analysis and the ability to distill data take time and demand a skill set that is often years in the making. It’s content produced by experienced journalists and editors that in most cases you won’t find anywhere else.”
