Letters like this from readers is what makes it all worthwhile

August 25, 2008

Helen Huntley, the personal finance editor at the St. Petersburg Times who is leaving the paper at the end of this week after 37 years, has received a number of letters and notes from her readers after her departure due to accepting the buyout was accepted and announced.

Helen HuntleyHuntley shared one with Talking Biz News. “I thought this one was particularly touching,” she said. “Maybe it will inspire other personal finance writers to know what what they do is very important to many people of limited means who have no access to paid advisers.”

The letter is from Ellice Y. Harris of Tampa, who writes, “I want to thank you for years of financial advice. I am very sadden that you are retiring and want to let you know that you really touch my life. You have help me make wise decisions.

“When you first started working for the Times, I was just a baby. The knowledge that you gain over the 37 years working for the St. Pete Times is a blessing. You are a blessing for sharing financial advice with me, and so many other people over the years.

“If you write a book or a monthly newsletter after you retire, please let me know so I can buy them ASAP.”
