Washington Post financial editor David Cho and deputy financial editor Zachary Goldfarb sent out the following announcement to the staff:

We are thrilled to announce Steve Zeitchik will join The Post to cover the business of entertainment.

Steve has spent eight years at the Los Angeles Times, where he has covered Hollywood from a variety of business angles, including the cable-world maneuverings that put “The Walking Dead” on the air, the early development of a long-shot theater gamble known as “Hamilton” and the disruptive onslaught of video streamers such as Netflix. He is a versatile writer who can get exclusives from inside the industry and step back to see the big ideas shaping television, movies and music.

He has also done a number of foreign reporting assignments for the Times, including in the Mideast after the Arab Spring, Greece during the economic crisis and Ukraine during Russia’s intervention in Crimea.

Steve has made frequent appearances on NPR and has contributed to the Wall Street Journal and New York Times. He has also worked for The Hollywood Reporter and Variety. Steve has his master’s degree from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and did his undergraduate work at Yeshiva University.

He is a fan of indie rock, is partial to Hitchcock and Lumet, and is obsessed – in a healthy way – with tennis and hockey.

Steve will be based in New York and travel frequently to Los Angeles, giving us a footing in the country’s two entertainment centers.

Please join us in welcoming Steve when he joins the newsroom Oct. 23.
