Up to 80 jobs at CNBC being cut

Paul Tharp of the New York Post reports Thursday that job cuts at business news network CNBC could begin today.

Tharp writes, “Sources say that as many as 80 staffers could be getting pink slips as early as today. The expected cuts are said to be across the board but will not affect the familiar on-air faces on the business channel.

“Up until now, CNBC has been spared cost-cutting efforts conducted by NBC, which announced a plan to trim $500 million in costs in October. At the time, NBCU President and CEO Jeff Zucker called for a 3 percent cut in expenses across departments.

“A CNBC spokesperson declined comment.”
