Brad Foss, deputy business editor of The Associated Press, and Bryan Borzykowski, a Toronto-based freelance business writer, have been appointed to the board of governors of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers.

Foss, who has been with The AP since 1999, directs daily coverage and long-term strategy for a global staff of reporters and editors from his base in Washington, D.C. Staffers under his supervision have won numerous SABEW Best in Business awards.

Prior to joining the AP, Foss worked at the Mill Valley Herald in Mill Valley, Calif. He has an undergraduate degree from Lehigh University and a master’s in journalism from Columbia University.

Borzykowski has written for a number of Canadian publications, including the Globe and Mail, Canadian Business and Toronto Star and has also contributed to The New York Times, CNBC, BBC Capital and CNNMoney. He has co-authored three investing books and often talks about business and the economy on CTV News. Bryan helped plan SABEW’s first international event in Toronto in 2010 and is helping to plan SABEW Canada’s first official event Sept. 30 as well as the new SABEW Canada Best in Business contest.

“These two appointments strengthen our board, which has a busy agenda in front of it, including a full calendar of training programs, contests and conferences,” said SABEW President Marty Wolk, managing editor of MSN Money, in a statement. “Brad and Bryan have shown passion and enthusiasm for SABEW, and I’m delighted to have them join the board.”

Kevin Shinkle, former AP business editor, resigned from the board after taking a position as chief communications officer for Delta Air Lines. “The board is grateful for Shinkle’s dedicated service to SABEW, and we wish him the best,” Wolk said. Another board vacancy was created when Cory Schouten, managing editor of the Indianapolis Business Journal, was elevated to SABEW secretary.
