Scott Thurm, senior deputy technology editor at The Wall Street Journal, is among those leaving the newspaper this week via its recent buyout offer.

Thurm’s last day is Friday. He has been at The Journal since May 1998 in its San Francisco bureau.

“I’m exploring many options but have no immediate plans,” said Thurm in a message to Talking Biz News.

He became senior deputy tech editor in 2013.  He had been a senior editor since 2010, and was part of the team that produced the Journal’s What They Know project on digital privacy. Previously, he was chief of the Journal’s Management bureau, supervising a bi-coastal group of reporters in New York and San Francisco.

Before joining The Journal, Thurm spent eight years as a reporter the San Jose Mercury News and five years as a reporter for the Louisville Courier-Journal and Louisville Times. He also worked for three years at  the Bethlehem Globe-Times.

He has a degree in math and political science from Tufts University.
