Suburban vs. downtown biz news

Bob Strasser, the publisher of the Oak Brook Business Ledger, a newspaper that serves the suburban Chicago market, writes about the differences between business news for the suburbs and business news for downtown.

Strasser writes, “Things have changed in the media industry. It’s fair to say our founder’s perception about the declining trend in business coverage by most media is even truer today than it was 16 years ago.

“Chicago’s daily newspapers have slashed their business reporting budgets, resulting in a dramatic shortage of suburban news coverage. There are now far fewer reporters to cover a wider market and weekly newspapers have taken up only a small portion of the slack. In contrast, The Business Ledger remains fixed on providing what our readers want. That won’t change.

“My job as publisher of The Business Ledger is to safely take my company through the same uncharted waters of change in which we all currently wade. The Business Ledger has been a guiding beacon for the businesses we serve.”
