Ron Stodghill, a senior editor for Fortune Small Business, is leaving the magazine to become a feature writer for the New York Times’ Sunday business section, according to a memo posted on the Romenesko web site.
Stodghill and I worked together at BusinessWeek magazine in 1993 and 1994, and he was one of the best editors I ever worked with at that pub. He later helped me find a agent who specialized in business books.
The memo stated, “Ron is a gifted, sensitive narrative writer who has covered topics ranging from the automobile industry, Oprah Winfrey, health care, shrimp fishermen and urban affairs to the Columbine shootings, Tiger Woods, AIDS, the Promise Keepers and adolescent promiscuity. He is the co-author of former Congressman Kweisi Mfume’s 1997 memoir, ‘No Free Ride.’ Next March, HarperCollins plans to publish ‘Redbone,’ Ron’s investigative exploration of the murder of an Atlanta millionaire. In January, he will receive an MFA in non-fiction writing from Queens University in Charlotte, N.C., the city where he currently lives.
