Linda SternKevin Krolicki, Washington bureau chief for Reuters, and Kevin Drawbaugh, deputy bureau chief in DC for Reuters, sent out the following announcement on Friday:

Washington staffers

We’re delighted to announce that Linda Stern is returning to the Washington bureau as Financial Regulation Editor, effective August 1.  In that position, she will oversee the finreg team – Lisa Lambert and Patrick Rucker – as they build out an already-strong file at a time when everything from breaking up the banks to taxing hedge fund managers to whether Wall Street can handle the next flash crash is part of the national conversation.

Linda has a long history with Reuters, having contributed her award-winning “Stern Advice” personal finance column for two decades before coming on staff in Washington in 2010. She has most recently been Wall Street editor in New York, overseeing coverage of the U.S. stock market and helping manage fund investing coverage. Under her leadership, the stocks team has redesigned its file, making “Stocks Buzz” a go-to resource for screen clients and regularly contributing broader investing stories.

In her multi-faceted career, Linda has done everything from covering the Fed and taxes to writing Cosmopolitan Magazine’s “Money” page. She was part of the Newsweek team that won a National Magazine Award for its special report on the 9/11 attacks, and has published three books on self-employment and retirement. Linda says she loved the New York experience  and colleagues, but is happy to be returning to her Takoma Park garden and the city where 24 hours a day of talking politics is just not enough.
