SMU journalism Web site launches business news portal

March 26, 2009

The Daily Mustang, a student-run website produced out of the journalism division at Southern Methodist University as part of its convergence newsroom, launched Wednesday a business news section to its Web site.

The section, called “Dollars and Sense,” is produced by SMU students as part of the William J. O’Neil Program in Business Journalism.Â

Its business coverage provides insight into how the economy is affecting the SMU community; guidance for students on managing their personal finances; and news about large North Texas companies and their impact on the people who live in the region. Current stories on the site include earnings for local companies such as Radio Shack and A.H. Belo.

“Dollars and Sense just launched yesterday, and we’re very excited by its possibilities,” said Mark Vamos, the O’Neil Chair in  Business Journalism at SMU, in an e-mail to Talking Biz News.

Vamos is the former editor in chief of Fast Company, and he was an editor at BusinessWeek magazine.
