Seattle Post-Intelligencer to close print; six lose jobs on biz desk

March 16, 2009

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer announced that its Tuesday edition would be its last printed. It will now become a Web-only operation.

All but one on a business desk of seven journalists, led by business editor Margaret Santjer, now face the prospect of finding new jobs. One reporter, Andrea James, is staying on to become part of a very small team of reporters and editors who will put out a Web edition of the paper.

“As far as I know, I’m the only one of us sticking around with the online operation,” said James in an e-mail. James covers retail, labor and economics.

In addition to Santjer, the business desk includes wire editor Maren Hunt, Microsoft reporter Joseph Tartakoff, Boeing reporter James Wallace, commercial real estate and general business reporter Dan Richman and business columnist Bill Virgin.
