San Jose paper names new business editor in reorganization

March 7, 2008

San Jose Mercury News deputy business editor Stephen R. Trousdale is replacing Rebecca Salner, who has accepted a buyout, as the paper’s business editor, according to a story in the paper Friday.

San Jose Mercury NewsPete Carey wrote, “Trousdale joined the Mercury News in September 2006 from the Contra Costa Times, where he had been editor of the paper’s award-winning business section. He also was co-head of the paper’s investigative team. Previously, he was business editor of the Torrance Daily Breeze in Southern California and managing editor for nearly a decade of the Los Angeles Daily Journal. He graduated from Stanford in 1985.

“‘Barbara and Steve are veteran editors and I am confident will do a terrific job in these new posts,’ Butler said.

“Friday’s job reductions are part of cost-cutting at two dozen daily and weekly Bay Area newspapers owned by MediaNews and operated by the Bay Area News Group. The other papers, which include the Oakland Tribune and the Contra Costa Times, announced staff reductions Thursday of 10 percent through buyouts given to 107 people. There were no layoffs at the other newspapers.”
