Reuters‘ Washington bureau chief Marilyn Thompson sent out the following staff promotion on Monday:
We are thrilled to announce that Caren Bohan, a seasoned Reuters reporter and recognized leader in Washington journalism circles, will take the helm of the White House and Congressional reporting teams as the new EIC for Domestic Policy.
Caren is a former White House correspondent and former president of the White House Correspondents’ Association. Since April, she has worked with our Capitol Hill and White House teams on initiative stories, ranging from immigration reform to the government shutdown to the political messaging over Obamacare.
After 19 years at Reuters, where she worked in both the Washington and New York, Caren left Reuters briefly to join National Journal. She managed a team of 15 reporters covering topics that included the budget, economy, healthcare energy and technology.
Caren has traveled the world covering the White House beat during the Obama and Bush administrations, and she was the lead reporter covering President Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign. She has interviewed Obama three times, landing two interviews with him during the campaign and one during his first year in office. She wrote several special reports from the White House beat, including magazine-length profiles of White House advisers Paul Volcker and Larry Summers and an in-depth piece on the U.S.-China relationship.
Prior to covering the White House, Caren covered the Federal Reserve and economy in Washington for seven years. She also worked in New York covering Treasury and currency markets.
