Reuters editor in chief Steve Adler sent out the following message to his staff on Tuesday:
I’m pleased to share the good news that I’ve been able to approve 50 new hires for 2014. These positions, which will be filled during the course of the year, reflect the recommendations of bureau chiefs, EICs and regional editors. The new hiring will help us fill gaps, increase our strength on some high-priority beats, and help us continue to expand our presence in key emerging markets. The roles are spread across text and visuals, and you’ll see postings for nearly all of them as they become available to be filled.
At the end of last year, Reuters lost more than three dozen staffers — many of whom had been there for decades — through buyouts.
