Ben Berkowitz, deputy regional editor for company news at Reuters, is leaving the wire service to become deputy managing editor at CNBC.com.

In an email to his Reuters colleagues on Friday, Berkowitz wrote, “Just a quick note to let friends and colleagues know that after a great run of four-plus years, I’ll be leaving Reuters as of today. Starting next month, I’ll be joining CNBC Digital as a Deputy Managing Editor, working with the CNBC.com crew to help run the site’s news operations.”

Berkowitz had also covered the insurance industry for Reuters. He also served as editor in charge of the New York tech, media and telecom reporting team, primarily covering media conglomerates and wireless companies.

He rejoined Reuters in Amsterdam in May 2009, covering the Dutch banking system and economy. He originally worked for Reuters in Los Angeles and New York from 2001 to 2006 covering everything from video games to oil.

In between he was business editor at AOL, head of the editing desk at AP Business News and managing editor of Fidelity.com.
