Richard Huff of the New York Daily News profiles CNBC reporter Rebecca Jarvis, who is covering the wild swings in the stock market.

Huff writes, “‘I take it very seriously, knowing the things we talk about can have an impact on every single person who turns on CNBC,’ Jarvis, 27, told the Daily News. ‘We have a role to help people understand what’s taking place … and to not create fear.’

“Since the economy has been sliding, the cable news networks, and the business news networks specifically — CNBC, Fox Business, Bloomberg News — have been churning and pouring through every twitch in the market and its potential ramifications on everyday people. Thursday, for instance, CNBC airs a ‘CNBC Retail Summit,’ a day-long focus on sales tied to new figures from chain stores.

“Jarvis will set up shop at the Mall of America. Margaret Brennan will be in a New Jersey mall, and Jane Wells will be at Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, Calif.

“‘There’s been a new [financial term] every single day,’ Jarvis said of the changing economy.

“‘There’s been a lot to cover and no shortage of news. From the same perspective, as you are covering stuff it turns the stomachs [of people] who are living it.'”
