Technology news site Re/code has hired Bloomberg News reporter Edmund Lee as its managing editor and promoted current managing editor Kenneth Li to editor.

Hadas Gold of Politico reports, “‘[Recode has] been one of my regular daily reads, and I’ve always respected the hell out of everything they’ve done,’ Lee said in an interview. ‘Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg are superlative journalists, and the chance to join them was hard to pass up.’

“Lee, who’s been with Bloomberg for nearly three years, starts in September. He has previously written for the New York Times, W Magazine and Advertising Age. Recode, which covers technology news, launched in January by former AllThingsD founders Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher. It’s funded by NBC News Group and a former Yahoo executive’s media company.

“Lee is in familiar territory at Recode. He went to college with his new boss Li, was best man at his wedding and vice versa.

“‘As managing editor, I’ll be working closely with the staff to help shape stories and give a little structure to the staff. Recode is growing, both in terms of the kinds of stories it’s publishing but also in size, so having someone to help mind some of that only makes sense,’ Lee said. ‘Recode has big ambitions, and I like being a part of a place that always is trying to be more than what they are. Which, for Recode, is saying something.'”
