A new category for investigative reporters and more prize money for freelance journalists highlight the National Association of Real Estate Editors‘ 59th Annual Journalism Competition aimed at staff writers, columnists, editors, and freelancers covering mortgage finance, foreclosures, commercial and residential real estate, green building, home design and myriad other topics in the broad field of real estate.
With a reach much wider than its name, NAREE has earmarked $9,000 in awards for first place winners in 30 categories. The entry deadline is Feb. 20, 2009, for work published or aired in 2008.
A first place award of $1,500 will go to the best overall individual entry and $500 is available the best freelance collection.
The competition is targeted to recognize leading journalists from daily metropolitan newspapers; weekly business newspapers; mortgage publications; trade, shelter, business and personal finance magazines; wire services; and broadcast and online news outlets.
Individual and team honors have included topics from the credit crisis, affordable housing, property taxes, investments and acquisitions, to disasters mitigation and sustainable urban design, new construction and remodeling.
Journalists from newspapers; business, trade and shelter magazines; Internet and broadcast outlets enter this real estate journalism competition recognizing excellence in writing, reporting, and editing since 1949.
“Best Entry by a Young Journalist” recognizes work from individuals 30 years or younger.
