Quartz launching in a few weeks

Kevin Delaney, the editor of the new business news site Quartz, sent out the following email to potential readers who have signed up at its website:

We’re approaching the launch of Quartz in just a matter of weeks. It’s crunch time, but our office is very busy and we’re making great progress.

In planning what Quartz reporters and editors will cover, we’ve been focused on identifying the seismic themes of today’s global economy. We’re thinking of these as defining obsessions, focused topics our reporters will cover rather than traditional beats. The obsessions will change over time, but some possibilities today might include:

  • The technology of finance
  • Transnational crime
  • Startups outside of the U.S. and Europe
  • China’s energy needs

The idea is that if our readers have a full understanding of these issues and their impacts, they’ll be better equipped to navigate their professional and personal lives. (I gave an interview recently that touches on this if you want to understand more fully how this will work.)

We’re interested in your suggestions as well. What focused themes do you think Quartz should cover obsessively? You can reply to this email to send me your thoughts.

Separately, we’ve begun tweeting much more actively at @quartznews, sharing links representative of Quartz’s field of coverage and updates on the project. You can also check out our press page and our Tumblr for updates on the project.

Thanks for your interest in Quartz. I look forward to hearing from you.
