cassie_werber_220_330Quartz editor in chief Kevin Delaney sent out the following announcement on Thursday:

I’m happy to announce that Cassie Werber is joining Quartz as a reporter in London as of January 5.

Cassie comes to us from the Wall Street Journal, where she has been reporting on energy for several years, including oil, small new energy companies, piracy and shipping, and West Africa. (Her coverage has recently also stretched to the Scottish referendum and the wonders of sourdough bread.)

At Quartz, Cassie’s coverage will span a few areas, including energy, UK politics and society, management and the arts. With her arrival, we’ll have four full-time journalists in Europe, and expect to add at least one more shortly. The UK is our third-biggest market for readers, and there’s clearly lots of opportunity for growth there that Cassie and our other colleagues in London can help us pursue.

Cassie is well known in the UK startup/media community for co-organizing Hacks/Hackers, a networking group for journalists and technologists. Prior to journalism, Cassie got a master’s in theater at Central School of Speech and Drama and started a professional theater company. Her undergraduate degree is from Cambridge University and she also has a master’s in business and finance journalism from City University, London, and the University of Aarhus in Denmark. Cassie speaks Spanish. You can follow her @cassiewerber.

Please join me in welcoming her.
