The Puget Sound Business Journal, the American City Business Journals newspaper in the Seattle market, is rolling out a redesigned paper on Friday.
“After a great deal of time in research and planning, including reader feedback, focus groups, surveys, prototypes and more, we’re excited to share our new look with the community,” said publisher Emory Thomas Jr., a former Wall Street Journal reporter, in a statement. “We hope our current and future readers recognize that an updated look will help to better deliver trends and analysis, while remaining the top-of-the-line local, breaking business news source they’ve come to trust.”
The changes include “teasers” or index items that have been added to all section fronts. In addition, the paper upgraded the table of contents and clarified the page labels, and it has increased the size of the body type to make the paper easier to read. A new headline font, Caslon, is being used to allow for longer headlines.
The paper has also added a “Newsmakers” index on the last inside page of the paper that offers a quick guide to every person and company appearing in the week’s news stories.
In terms of editorial content, with a new feature called “Scoreboard,” reporters will revisit headlines from a year ago to update them — noting new developments and what may be ahead. Another new feature, “The Insider,” assembles short, relevant and revealing news breaks.
“The redesign gives us new features, better navigation and stronger visuals, and helps our team tell better stories,” said editor George Erb. “We’ll deliver the exclusive insight and analysis our readers expect, in a more efficient and authoritative design.”
