Prosper magazine, the Sacramento-based business and lifestyle magazine, will print its last issue in December and all employees have been laid off, writes Jon Ortiz of the Sacramento Bee.
Oritz wrote, “Prosper’s first cover story examined California’s business climate and whether Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger could improve it.
“Over time, the magazine changed. Tech business journalist Jeffrey Young took over as editor in December. His résumé includes cofounding MacWorld magazine and writing for Forbes.
“Young quickly moved the publication from hard business coverage to stories that blended finance, work and lifestyle. The magazine’s July 2007 cover, for example, featured a tight shot of tennis player Anna Kournikova’s rippling legs under the caption, ‘Hangin’ With Anna.’ The accompanying story looked at life as a sports franchise owner.
“The makeover garnered the magazine an Ozzie Award in September from Folio, an industry publication. Revenues still lagged.”
