Pennsylvania paper cuts stock listings

The Harrisburg Patriot-News in Pennsylvania has cut its printed stock listings in favor of the AP’s “Money & Markets” page.

A story in the paper stated, “Our new stock pages give you a great deal of information on trends, the hottest stocks of each day and key sectors. We will tell the story of the broader market each day. That way, you can understand what is happening to your own portfolio in the context of the overall market. “There are more than 5,000 U.S. stocks and more than 8,000 mutual funds. Even the Wall Street Journal only publishes a fraction of them — plus, their prices can jump up or down during the day.

“A newspaper just isn’t the best way to find an individual stock price in today’s fast-moving market, but it is very easy to find any stock information you want over the Web.”
