NYT’s Dealbook content to remain free — for now

March 17, 2011

Andrew Ross Sorkin, the New York Times business journalist who oversees its Dealbook site, writes that its content won’t be placed behind the newspapers paywall.

Sorkin writes, “Many of you have been with us since we started as an e-mail service in 2001. Many more new readers have joined us along the way — especially since we expanded DealBook’s staff of reporters and editors in the fall of 2010 and redesigned the site. In the coming months, we hope to offer even more breaking news and analysis as well as new features.

“None of this is meant to suggest that DealBook will not be part of digital subscription programs in the future, but for now, given our recent relaunch and the extraordinary support from our new readers, DealBook news and information will remain accessible without a subscription.

“The worlds of finance and deal-making are going through an extraordinary transition that is an important story for our economy and our world. We hope to be a central hub for the news and the dialogue shaping it.”
