New York Times business columnist Joe Nocera talked to “All Things Considered” host Rickey Bevington in the Georgia Public Broadcasting offices about how business journalism performed leading up to the economic recession.
Nocera said, “First of all, I don’t think we missed everything. But scond of all, we missed a lot…I didn’t know a lot about derivatives.
“The truth is that very few journalists who drilled down could see that there were problems.
“I would definitely say that the business press has a tendency to talk to the top people, the CEOs and the CFOs, and write about the stock price … without digging into the cause. …For that, I think we deserve some criticism.”
