Nocera to NYT op-ed page?

January 13, 2011

Jeff Bercovici of Forbes.com reports that New York Times business columnist Joe Nocera is getting ready to move to the paper’s op-ed page.

Bercovici writes, “Nocera is no slouch himself in the awards department: He’s won two Gerald Loeb awards and three John Hancock awards for business writing, and was also a finalist for a Pulitzer Prize this year, according to his bio page.

“‘I don’t think it is appropriate for me to talk about the internal workings of the Times, whether it is about me or anyone else,’ Nocera told me when I emailed him to ask about the move. A spokeswoman had no comment.

“If it happens — I’m told it’s all but a done deal but not yet official — Nocera would be the paper’s first new permanent op-ed writer since Ross Douthat, a conservative who was only 29 at the time, replaced Bill Kristol in 2009.”
