News editor named for Dow Jones Newswires stock market team

July 28, 2010

Linda Fung, the managing editor of Dow Jones Newswires, and Grainne McCarthy, markets editor for WSJ.com and Newswires, sent out the following announcement on Wednesday:

“We are pleased to announce that Joe Bel Bruno will be joining our U.S. stock market team as a News Editor. He will oversee the group that covers the U.S. stock market, hot stocks, options, IPOs, MARKET TALK and market commentary generally for the newswires, and help to feed the online and print editions of The Wall Street Journal. Joe joins the group at a time when markets coverage has become even more central to our global coverage.

“Joe joined Newswires in 2009 and covers the securities industry and Wall Street, where he has had numerous scoops. His transition to watching equities markets won’t be a new one — he previously covered the stock market for the Associated Press for five years.

“At the AP, Joe was part of a team covering the financial crisis that won a ‘Best in Business’ award from the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, an award he’s won two other times. Prior to that, Joe worked for four years at Knight-Ridder Financial/BridgeNews as a senior banking correspondent based in London and a financial services reporter in New York. He’s also held spots at The Orange Country Register, Copley News Service and The Bond Buyer newspaper.

“Joe is a graduate of University of California with a B.A. in political science.”
