New NBR anchor credits parents for interest in business

December 26, 2009

Jennifer DeWitt of the Quad City Times in Iowa profiles new “Nightly Business Report” co-anchor Tom Hudson, who grew up in Iowa and learned the importance of money from his parents.

DeWitt writes, “While most of his work speaks to the financial world, he said the past 18 months have proved just how important financial issues are — to all who use money. ‘The challenge is everybody in the media has discovered we should cover money. What NBR has done and will continue to do is provide that deep context that others fail to provide.’

“His pledge is to continue to tackle the serious business stories of the day but report ‘on how these issues play down at the kitchen table.’

“‘I literally learned about money and finance sitting with my mom balancing a checkbook. I learned about the value of savings and rainy day funds with my dad,’ said Hudson, who is the son of retired Davenport school teachers Jack and Gwen Hudson.

“Hudson, who already began working with the show, will make his first appearance as co-anchor on Jan. 4. He joins co-anchor Susie Gharib on the longest-running and most-watched daily business program.”
