As a continuation of our strategy to develop strong local management for our coverage of key sectors out of the New York office and to bolster our specialist risk arbitrage content, I’m delighted to announce the following appointments for Dealreporter and Mergermarket North America:
Jonathan Guilford is promoted to Assistant Editor, Risk Arbitrage. In his new role, Jonathan will coordinate coverage of public company situations, geared towards our Dealreporter subscribers. He will act as the point person for editing non-regulatory Dealreporter coverage, run our weekly risk arb meeting and work closely with Dealreporter’s analytics team. Since joining Acuris in 2014, Jonathan has excelled as a reporter on the TMT beat, writing exclusives and analysis on complex telecom and media deals. For the past year, he has built up his editing chops, notably co-editing the Morning Flash. He is recognized as a team player who regularly collaborates with colleagues across editorial and analytics.
Marlene Star becomes New York Editor, Sector Coverage, an expanded role that sees her manage a consolidated team of NY-based reporters covering companies in key sectors. She will be assisted by her deputy Sam Weisberg, who is now Deputy New York Editor, Sector Coverage.
This is in line with our strategy to foster strong local management for sector-focused reporters who are based in our key hubs, a strategy that has seen Marlene and Sam’s team gradually expand beyond industrials over the past 12 months to great effect. The NY sector coverage team will be tasked with producing the full range of stories Dealreporter and Mergermarket covers and will notably look to increase output of large cap origination, auctions coverage and data-driven analysis. They will be implementing content plans laid down by the heads of our various content strategies.
For the past several years, Marlene has led the industrials sector team and prior to the combination of the Mergermarket and Dealreporter teams served as Deputy Editor of Mergermarket North America. Along with management and editing, Marlene is a prolific reporter. Her sector expertise ranges from industrials to education and most recently consumer, positioning her well to work with reporters covering multiple industries. Sam’s over ten years of experience at Mergermarket likewise lends him well to working across sectors. He has proved to be an excellent reporter, editor and mentor, readily taking on new projects and helping out colleagues.
