OLD Media Moves

New biz editor at Illinois paper

July 30, 2006

John Pulliam has been named business editor at the Galesburg Register-Mail in Illinois, according to a short story in the Sunday newspaper.

Pulliam replaces Mike Landis, who left The Register-Mail to take a sports editor position at the Kewanee Star Courier.

Pulliam of Wataga will take over duties as business editor Monday. He’ll be responsible for producing and selecting content for the daily business pages and Sunday business section.

He’s been at The Register-Mail since 1992, when he started as police and courts reporter. He then served as city editor from 1994 to 2003 before deciding to become senior reporter. He’s covered the Galesburg City Council during most of his time at the newspaper.

“John knows the players and the turf better than anyone,” said Register-Mail Editor Tom Martin in the story. “Over the years he’s written many business stories. He’s a natural for this position.”

The change means Pulliam will give up his South of I-80 column, but eventually he will write a weekly business column, Martin said.
