Mobile paper cutting stock listings to once a week

April 2, 2006

The Mobile Press-Register is cutting its stock listings to once a week, according to editor Mike Marshall in a column in Sunday’s newspaper. The Saturday paper will have a weekly review of stock performance.

Mobile RegisterMarshall writes, “With more and more readers getting stock market information from real-time sources, the Press-Register is scaling back its stock listings to a once-a-week Saturday summary of the week’s trading. The change will allow the newspaper to better concentrate its resources on local news coverage.

“Up-to-the-minute stock listings will remain available on the newspaper’s Web site, www.al.com. If you have any trouble locating your stock or mutual fund on the Web site, please call John Sellers (219-5610) during regular business hours, and he will walk you through the simple process.

“Look to our daily business page for summaries of stock market action, including trading diaries of the major indexes and the performance of selected local stocks of interest. In Saturday’s Press-Register, we’ll print four full pages of stock and mutual funds listings, just as we have in the past.”
