Heidi N. Moore, former New York bureau chief and Wall Street correspondent for Marketplace, has been hired by the Guardianto be its U.S. finance and economics editor.

The announcement was made by the Guardian’s U.S. editor-in-chief Janine Gibson. Moore brings more than 13 years of experience in financial reporting and commentary to lead the Guardian’s expanding coverage of global economic issues for a US audience.

“I’m excited to join the talented team at the Guardian, which has quickly become known for its perceptive embrace of an all-digital strategy and success in engaging readers,” said Moore in a statement. “The Guardian’s innovative approach to journalism and its smart discourse offer a unique platform to give readers global news, analysis and tools to participate in the financial discussion that affects their daily lives. It is a privilege to be part of the team.”

Moore joined Marketplace in 2011, where she reported and wrote about banks, companies, finance and markets. She was a reporter for the Wall Street Journal and a lead writer for Deal Journal online at the height of the financial crisis. There, she covered banks and mergers, broke news of SEC investigations and big acquisitions, and reported on Barclays Capital buying most of Lehman Brothers out of bankruptcy.

She was a U.S. bureau chief for London-based Dow Jones-owned weekly newspaper and daily website, Financial News. For six years, she was also a senior writer covering Wall Street banks and power brokers for The Deal magazine. Her writing has appeared in The New York Times, Washington Post, New York Magazine, Financial Times and Slate.

“Heidi brings enviable reporting and commentary skills to the Guardian as we work to grow our coverage of business and finance in the U.S.,” said Gibson in a statement. “Her wealth of knowledge and experience are matched by her talent for analyzing and interpreting financial issues in an accessible way. We’re delighted to welcome her to the team.”
