Financial journalist James Ledbetter is joining the Reuters.com team as editor in charge of the U.S. edition, the wire service announced Thursday.

The appointment continues Thomson Reuters investment in making its consumer website the destination for business professionals. Ledbetter, who had been editor of The Slate Group’s The Big Money, which was shuttered earlier this summer, will oversee the home page and work with Reuters global team of 2,800 journalists on original content for the site.

Ledbetter has previously been deputy managing editor of CNNMoney.com and Fortune.com , and is the author or editor of five books. His latest, on Dwight D. Eisenhower and the Military-Industrial Complex, will be published by Yale University Press in January. He will report to Richard Baum, global editor, consumer media.

Thomson Reuters has also appointed Arlene Getz to support its strategy to boost its news presence in the United States.

Getz will help tailor the Reuters news offering for its media clients and take advantage of shifts in the media industry. She will report to Eddie Evans, top news editor.

Previously, Arlene served for two years as editorial director of worldwide special editions at Newsweek magazine. Prior to her most recent role at Newsweek, Arlene was senior editorial manager for Newsweek.com and senior editor for Newsweek. Arlene also served as U.S. correspondent for the Gemini News Service and as South Africa correspondent for the Sydney Morning Herald in Australia.
