Lisa Bannon, life and arts coverage chief at The Wall Street Journal, sent out the following announcement on Friday:
I am pleased to announce that Andrew LaVallee will join the Life & Arts team as arts editor. Andrew brings a wealth of experience editing culture stories in Asia and New York and is well suited to oversee our coverage of movies, television, music, art and books.
Andrew joined the Journal as a technology reporter in 2006, moving to Hong Kong in 2010 to lead digital initiatives and arts coverage for Asia, then back to NYC in 2013 as arts and culture editor for Greater New York. He later became a deputy bureau chief for the section and for the past year has been deputy bureau chief in the corporate news bureau, working with reporters covering retail, telecoms, consumer goods and industrials. He began his journalism career at the Patriot Ledger in Quincy, Mass.
Before journalism, Andrew worked as a producer and project manager at DoubleClick and Razorfish, and as an artist’s assistant to Yoko Ono Lennon.
Raised in Mobile, Ala., he studied English and clarinet performance at Oberlin College and received a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. He lives in Brooklyn with his husband and dog and is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association and the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association.
