Jim Wright, who was named the business editor of the Las Vegas Review-Journal in April 2011, has been promoted to deputy editor/metro and business.
Wright’s new position means that the business editor role is being eliminated at the paper, according to a story on its website.
Wright, 54, also oversaw the Las Vegas Business Press, a weekly business-to-business magazine produced by the Review-Journal staff. He ran a staff of 14 on the business desk.
Before joining the Review-Journal as an assistant city editor in July 2010, Wright, 54, was editor of the Twin Falls, Idaho, Times-News; an international media management consultant in North Africa; assistant managing editor of the Albany (N.Y.) Times Union; assistant metro editor of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer; and business editor of the Colorado Springs Gazette.
An Oregon native, Wright received a degree in journalism from the University of Idaho in 1980 and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Colorado in 1990.
His first job in journalism was as a reporter for the Rocky Mountain News.
