Iowa biz editor promoted to managing editor

Dave DreeszenDave Dreeszen, longtime business editor of the Sioux City Journal in Iowa, has been promoted to managing editor/news.

Bruce Miller of the Journal writes, “He replaces Jackie Kaczmarek who earlier was named managing editor/features.

“The transitions were announced Tuesday by Editor Bruce Miller. ‘With Dave and Jackie in place, I’m confident we’ll continue to grow both our news and features sections,’ he said. ‘They have a wealth of experience in both print and online that will help us reach readers on multiple platforms 24 hours a day.’

“Dreeszen, a native of Auburn, Iowa, joined the Journal as a political reporter and general assignment reporter in 1989. He was named city hall reporter in 1993 and business editor in 1999. He has a bachelor’s degree in communications and business management from Central College in Pella, Iowa.

“During his career, he has won numerous state and national awards, most recently for his coverage of gaming issues in Sioux City. In 2011, his coverage of the John Morrell plant closing earned the Iowa Associated Press Managing Editors’ Sweepstakes Award. In 2009, he was one of 12 journalists awarded fellowships for a national business training program sponsored by the Donald W. Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism at Arizona State University.”
