Houston Chronicle deputy managing editor Todd Stone and business editor Al Lewis sent out the following announcement on Tuesday:

Hey crew –

We are pleased to announce that Ileana Najarro, formerly an intern at the Wall Street Journal and other national publications, will be joining the Houston Chronicle as a business general assignment reporter.

Ileana is a graduate from Stanford University with a B.A. in communication with honors and with Phi Beta Kappa distinction. Most recently, she has been an intern on the Metro desk of the Los Angeles Times where she has also contributed to the paper’s national coverage of the Orlando nightclub shooting.

Previously, she completed a fall internship at the Mexico City bureau of the Wall Street Journal where she produced daily and enterprise stories out of Mexico and El Salvador. She also completed internships at the Metro desk of the New York Times and the Local desk of the Washington Post. Her earliest professional work was at the Santa Monica Daily Press and the bilingual and biweekly Eastern Group Publications based in East Los Angeles.

During her time at Stanford, she served as a staff writer, news editor and managing editor of news at the student publication, The Stanford Daily.

At the Chronicle, Ileana will pursue a variety of business news – both daily and enterprise – for all of the Chronicle’s platforms.

Ileana’s first day at the Chronicle will be Aug. 1.
