Mark Hamrick, senior economic analyst and Washington bureau chief of Bankrate.com, has been named vice president of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, the largest association of business journalists.
Hamrick, who began serving as SABEW treasurer last year, will take over as president at the conclusion of the organization’s 2017 spring conference, which will be held April 27-29 in Seattle, and will serve a one-year term.
An award-winning journalist, Hamrick joined personal-finance site Bankrate.com in January 2013 after leading business news for the Associated Press radio and television/online video operation in Washington for more than 18 years.
Along with his work analyzing developments in the economy, financial markets, politics and business for the Bankrate.com audience, Hamrick provides commentary or content hundreds of times a year for radio, television, print and online publications. Before joining the SABEW board in 2014, he served as a president of the National Press Club.

Glenn Hall, U.S. editor of The Wall Street Journal and SABEW vice president, announced he will resign from the executive committee effective immediately because an increasingly demanding news cycle is limiting the amount of time he could commit to serving as an officer this year. Hall will remain engaged and supportive of SABEW’s mission as a board member.
